These Guys are Wondering Just Exactly What They've Got Themselves Into

:: High Water Thrill Seeker ::

So ya, we'll get you wet. No problem there. It's just a matter of deciding how and when. If you're looking to add the high thrill value to your adventure vacation, then Windfall Outdoor Center is there for you. Take a look at these heart pounding options:

Spring Runoffs - It's not rocket science. There's a higher flow of water during the spring due to winter melt. Larger volumes of water brings higher waves, bigger rapids, more white water fun. Book your vacation in May to catch the best of the spring run-off high water. Both the Kennebec and the Dead run high during the spring.

High Water Dead River - It's no suprise that the biggest releases on the Dead River occur during the spring. We see the biggest releases of water every year during the spring, so book early because Dead River trips fill up fast! The Dead River schedule varies, so please check our schedule and be sure to adjust your itenary to catch the Dead River at its highest levels.

Note also that you can catch some serious Dead River action at the end of the season in late September and October. The Dead River dam control operators will let out large amounts of water during scheduled release dates, which means we get one last whitewater rafting blast on the Dead at the end of the season.

Insider's Tip - Booking your trip in the early or late season not only offers you some of the bigger water and rapids of the season, but also gives you the early / late season discounts. It's like two bonuses in one; cheap rafting and big water. How cool is that?

Kennebec River Big Water Days - The Kennebec River dam, Harris Station, generates a manditory high water flow of 8000cfs on two days only during the rafting season. Check the schedule carefully to make sure you've booked a trip with us on these very special day. The water is huge! Have fun and hold on tight!

Small Rafts on the Kennebec - Ok, so you can't make any of the high water days to get your high water fix. What do you do? We've got the perfect solution for you. On any Kennebec River rafting trip, you can request the "Small Rafts" for you and your buddies and we'll break out our smaller boats just for you. The reason we do this is because the smaller the boat, the more action you're going to see. The average customer doesn't want to be this, let's say, intimate with the Kennebec. However, you're not the average Joe are you? You want to get wet? You want a ride? This is how.

Note that because fewer people fit in our smaller rafts, our trip costs go up. So, there is an additional fee per person on the smaller rafts. Also note that you need a full boat of willing passengers before we'll do this. If you've got 5 friends living on the bleeding edge of death (just joking, it's not that bad), then the 6 of you will fill one boat. Awesome way to get your thrill ride, trust us!

:: Back to Nature ::

Get back to nature with Windfall Outdoor Center. If you're looking for the beautiful Maine woods environment to spend your vacation, then this profile is for you. Here's some of our 'Back to Nature' activities which we offer.

Fall Foliage - Autumn in Maine becomes one of the most enjoyable times of the year to see and experience the beautiful wilderness of New England. Autumn brings the renowned fall foliage and there's really no better time to explore the Maine rivers than in fall. Our September and October trips offer the best chance to see the chaning colors of the leaves and what's great about this time in the season is that our activities are discounted for the end of season. So, in the fall, not only do you get the chance to see the changing leaves, but a chance to save money on your vacation as well.

Hike to Falls & Moose Watching - Enjoya leisurely hike to the largest waterfall in the New England area, Moxie Falls. This easy hike through the woods takes us to a wonderful spot to view this beautiful water fall. The hike in is easy, only about 30 minutes.

Maine is famous for Moose, adn we know where to find them. We'll give you directions for great spots to see them right from your car. You can easily spot a dozen Moose in a short drive from your accommodation.

Canoe Rentals - Big Wood Pond (it's really the size of a large lake) offers an alternative chance to enjoy nature. Several of our accommodations offer canoe rentals. There are also local area canoe rentals available as well. With your canoe, you can guide your own trip on Big Wood Pond skirting the shore looking for wildlife or traveling across the lake to an island. Pack your own lunch and spend the afternoon enjoying the lakeside.

Less Crowded Weekdays - Getting back to nature usually means getting away from the crowds. Weekday vacations always have fewer travellers than weekends do. For this reason, the true nature lover will visit us during the weekdays if at all possible. What's great about booking a trip during the weekday is that rates are reduced due to less demand. Please check out our rate schedule for our weekday trips.
