Windfall Rafting

Dead River

Once you've experienced the Kennebec, we suggest you set out on the Dead River.  The Dead River is a special experience, and trips on the Dead are highly sought after due to the Dead's restricted release schedule.  The Dead River is perfect for guests who are ready for a new challenge, or who simply want to take on the wildest waters our guides can offer.  The Dead features Class III rapids and multiple Class IVs!  Despite all its huge rapids, the Dead is still a great choice for the whole family.

A Day with Windfall

Each morning there is a sense of excitement as rafters sign waivers, sip coffee, get outfitted with gear for the day and then listen to a safety briefing.  As guides and rafters get on the bus to the river everyone nervously wonders what the day will bring!

Dead River raft trips begin at Spencer Stream eddie and end 16 miles later in the town of The Forks, Maine.  The minimum age for the Dead is 14 years old.  In those sixteen miles you will make memories that will fill your mind with stories and make you eager for your next raft trip.  Each of our boats is a 15 foot Aire raft.  These boats hold between 8-10 people each.  If you are looking to make your adventure with us more extreme upgrade to our smaller rafts for a wilder ride.   Smaller boats mean bigger waves.

The Dead River boasts the longest continuous rapids in Maine.  As the day goes on the intensity increases down to the very last rapid of the day.  Your crew will work together to safely navigate Spencer Rips, Hayden's Landing, Humpty Dumpty, Big Poplar and many others.  Since the Dead only releases a few times a year, each release is at different water level and each trip down is new and exciting.

Family Options.  If you have kids under the age of 14 or elderly grandparents that are timid about the challenges of the Dead you can still come rafting!  Choose the row frame upgrade and our guides can take 10-14 year olds, elderly people, or nervous rafters in a row frame down the river.  This is a frame that straps to the boat and gives one guide full control of the boat.  It allows rafters to enjoy the ride without worrying about falling out while paddling.  Lunch is included with this option as well.

Duckie Trips.  If you have been rafting before and are looking for a new challenge, run the Dead at a lower flow in an inflatable kayak.  Bring a group of friends and all of you can man your own craft down the river.  This is a great option for camps looking to do a multi-day trip with Windfall.  Call for these special lower flow release dates and trip availability.
