The Kennebec River
The Kennebec River is by far the most popular raft trip in all of New England. Your day begins with a safety briefing at our base as you are outfitted with your gear. Then it’s off to the rushing waters of Maine’s most popular white water destination. The Kennebec features Class III and IV rapids and has a daily release of 5,000 cubic feet per second. With our trained guides at the helm, you and your family or friends will safely navigate through the Kennebec’s most tumultuous bends and chutes. You will pass through famous rapids like “Big Mamma,” “Magic Falls,” or even “Maytag” on Big Water Days. This river offers enough action to keep white water veterans on the edge of their seat, but is safe for children and first-time rafters as well. A Day with Windfall
Each morning there is a sense of excitement as rafters sign waivers, sip coffee, get outfitted with gear for the day and then listen to a safety briefing. As guides and rafters get on the bus to the river everyone nervously wonders what the day will bring!Kennebec raft trips begin at Harris Dam Station and end 12 miles later in the town of The Forks, Maine. In those twelve miles you will make memories and share rich experiences that will simply defy description. Each of our boats is a 15 foot Aire raft. These boats hold between 8-10 people each. If you are looking to make your adventure with us more extreme, upgrade to our smaller rafts for a wilder ride. Smaller boats mean bigger waves!
The Upper Gorge is the wildest part of the ride (minimum age is ten). Each Windfall boat must work together following their Guide's careful instruction to navigate the rapids. Half way down the river Windfall stops at our own lunch site to relax and refuel our bodies. Windfall Guides serve lunch to the group each day. Enjoy a fire while sipping hot drinks and getting ready for the second half of the river. Lunch is included with the cost of your trip.
The second half of the river is known as the Lower Gorge. During lunch each Guide inflates a kayak for his or her rafters to try out as we navigate the Lower Gorge. The second half of the river is Class II rapids which provide the opportunity to try catching a wave in an inflatable kayak or having a massive water fight between all the boats in your group.
Family Options: If you have kids under the age of ten or elderly grandparents that do not want to run the Upper Gorge you can still come rafting! Choose the row frame upgrade and our guides can take 7-9 year-olds, elderly people, or nervous rafters in a row frame down the Upper Gorge. This is a frame that straps to the boat and gives one guide full control of the boat. This allows rafters to enjoy the ride without worrying about falling out while paddling. The other thing you can consider for your family or group is joining the trip at the half way point and running the Lower Gorge only. This has a lower cost and is a great option for those who are not interested in the Upper Gorge but still want the white water experience. Lunch is included with this option as well.Download a:minor's waiver.
Duckie Trips. If you have been rafting before and are looking for a new challenge, run the Lower Gorge in an inflatable kayak. You can do this as a part of your raft trip with us or just bring a group of friends and all of you can man your own craft for the second half of the day. This is a great option for camps looking to do a multi-day trip with Windfall.| Kennebec Rates/Big Water | |
